Multidimensional Scaling in Recreational Planning
Many factors influence the attitudes of individuals who are contemplating a visit to a recreational facility. An individual perceives these factors in a certain way and implicitly determines which factors are most important. Multidimensional scaling is a descriptive modeling tool for transforming perceptual or preferential views or both, from an empirical form into a spatial representation of geometrical relationships. The method is applied to a water resources management problem for identifying the factors of most importance in planning a recreational facility.
