Development of Predictive Soil-Atmosphere Models for Test Plots at the Questa Mine, New Mexico
This paper describes the development of predictive soil-atmosphere models for test plots at the Questa Mine located near Questa, New Mexico. The models were developed using data from instrumented test plots installed in 2000 in exposed mine rock materials. The models will be used to support decisions about mine water management and to guide final reclamation of mine rock piles. This paper describes site-specific considerations for model development including selection of the model code, model calibration to measured lysimeter outflows, and calibration targets. Results of the model predictions are summarized for one of the test plots.
