A Case Study on Quality Management of Unbound Layers with Seismic Methods
The structural design of highways is based on engineering parameters, such as strength or stiffness. Unfortunately, construction specifications are not based on these properties. Unfortunately, acceptance criteria are typically based on adequate thickness or density of the placed materials. A procedure to measure the modulus of each pavement layer after placement with seismic technology is presented. Field and laboratory tests are incorporated so their results can be reconciled without any scaling or simplifying assumptions. In this paper, the overall method and procedures to establish the accuracy and repeatability of the methods are described and a case studied is also included.
