Total Dissipated Energy Curve Analysis in Undrained Cyclically Loaded Saturated Sand
Total dissipated energy in saturated sands during cyclic loading is one of the major methods for liquefaction assessment. Factors affecting the rate of energy consumed in saturated sands are studied. 30 undrained cyclic triaxial tests were programmed to be conducted on Firoozkuh sand in the University of Tehran in compression, extensional and isotropic modes. Total energy required to liquefy the saturated sand samples is calculated and the required energy versus time curves are drawn. Two general branches in the total energy curves are distinguished. The rate of energy consumption in the first branch and the location of the maximum curvature, give good ideas about the effect of several parameters on the sand behavior and the onset of liquefaction.
