Field Survey and 3-D Simulation on Inundation Disaster due to Storm Surge in Masan City in South Korea
Typhoon Maemi landed on the south coast of Korea and caused a tremendously severe storm surge disaster in Masan city on September, 2003. The tide gauge in Masan Port recorded the storm surge of a maximum of approximately 2.4m, which resulted in heavily flooding the residential and commercial area facing the Masan Bay. And almost all the underground facilities suffered from the inundation by the storm surge. The numerical prediction of inundation due to storm surge was carried out in order to propose the future prevention system. This paper also describes the results of field survey and the validity of the inundation simulation.
