Reclamation Case Studies of Dam Removal
The U. S. Department of Interior, Bureau of Reclamation is involved in many dam decommissioning projects in the Western United States. These projects involve complete to partial dam removal. Reclamation has analyzed the sediment impacts of several dam decommissioning projects: Battle Creek Dams in California, Matilija Dam in California, and Savage Rapids Dam in Oregon. The dams range from small to large and the impacts also span a large range. The major components of these projects and specific lessons learned are summarized.
