Zoning Maps for Airports
Airport zoning may be defined simply as the protection of approaches. In practice, the term encompasses the defining of sloping approaches to standards evolved through long experience, and effectually protecting them from encroachment of man-made or naturally grown flight hazards by purchasing adjoining land, securing avigation (aerial navigation) easements; or by enacting and enforcing zoning ordinances. The purpose of this paper is to call attention to the desirability of early and effective zoning and to suggest methods of further simplifying and standardizing zoning surveys and maps.
