Bring Your A-GaME!
The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), in collaboration with industry partners, is helping state DOTs take their existing geotechnical site characterization programs to the next level. Technologies like geophysical methods, cone penetration testing (CPT), and measurement-while-drilling (MWD) have been around for decades, yet remain underutilized in routine geotechnical site characterization in U.S. practice. A current FHWA initiative is helping promote these and other newer, proven methods to state departments of transportation (DOTs) across the country, where they can be used to enhance site characterization programs and add project value. The Advanced Geotechnical Methods in Exploration, or “A-GaME,” effort is promoting a suite of field tools to show their effectiveness in reducing project risk and uncertainties, while simultaneously improving and accelerating project delivery.
