Probabilistic Compressible Soil Thickness from Field Settlement Data
Field data from settlement plates was monitored to trace the primary consolidation process of compressible soil induced by preloading fill. Hyperbolic regression method was applied to monitor the degree of consolidation of site soil. Layer thickness of compressible soil has been calculated from the measured consolidation time t60 or t90, associated with a site average value of coefficient of consolidation. Time factor corresponding to target degree of consolidation is known a function of coefficient of consolidation, consolidation time and layer thickness (drainage length). The probability function of the compressible soil layer thickness could be evaluated from a statistical assessment of coefficient of consolidation on the site soils using joint probability density calculation.
