A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
To create an oasis-like setting within the urban heart of Azerbaijan’s capital, the design team of the new JW Marriott Hotel Absheron Baku included a landscaped park in a series of elevated terraces that extended the city’s monumental public square to the glazed facade of the new, mixed-use project. The terraces also conceal the at-grade mechanical system rooms and back-of-house functions of the hotel, which was limited to a single below-grade level because of the site’s proximity to the Baku waterfront.
