Hydraulics of Gravity Wells in Sloping Sands
An approximate partial differential equation is developed for the flow of ground water through a water-table aquifer resting on a sloping impermeable bed. The equation is integrated to obtain analytical expressions for the drawdown distribution around wells completely penetrating the water-bearing medium. The aquifer may be infinite in area or it may be bounded on one side by a fairly straight and effectively long section of a stream that cuts completely through the aquifer. The well may be operating at a constant head or at a constant discharge. The solutions are presented in forms amenable to relatively simple computation. The results are compared with those of a horizontally laid water-bearing medium.
