Time-Dependent Mechanical Property Changes of Glass Fiber-Reinforced Polymers Exposed to High pH Environments
It is common that infrastructure facilities, especially those exposed to challenging environments, undergo premature deterioration. Although reinforced concrete structures are cost-efficient and generally durable, severe costs can be incurred by owners when these structures are exposed to aggressive corrosive environments, reducing the service life of the structure. Because corrosion of the steel reinforcement is a major cause of deterioration of reinforced concrete structures, engineers and designers are investigating various methods to improve the corrosion resistance performance of these structures. This paper focuses on investigating the performance of concrete structures reinforced with non-metallic reinforcing bars, specifically glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) reinforcing bars.
