A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Wood Education in Civil Engineering — The View from Lake Superior
The number of civil engineering departments that offer one timber design course to their students has changed little since 1986. The specific departments that offer a course has changed, but the losses and gains in courses has been about equal. The number of departments that have two courses available to their students appears to have slightly increased. The future of wood engineering education is unclear due to the limits on wood research leading to Ph.D.s. I suspect that we in the wood engineering community will find it a challenge to keep the number of courses offered in civil engineering departments at the same level as it is today.
