A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Computer Languages and Program Libraries
The concept and key characteristics of problem-oriented computer languages are summarized, alternate approaches to their design analyzed, and the salient features of existing problem-oriented languages for hydraulic engineering are reviewed. The establishment of a central repository (library) of programs emerges as a most desirable step to the development of operational problem-oriented languages and as a facility of considerable value per se. Issues in the creation of such a library are analyzed, with suggestions for its organization and operation. Recommendations are made for ASCE actions concerning the repository and the further development of problem-oriented languages.
