Micromechanical Study of the Dynamic Response of Unsaturated Granular Soil Deposits
This paper presents a micro-mechanical study of the dynamic response of unsaturated granular soil deposits when subjected to dynamic excitations. The discrete element method was used to idealize the soil skeleton. Suction forces were modeled using interparticle water bridges in pendular state. Numerical simulations were conducted to investigate the impact of moisture content on the dynamic response of level grounds. The outcome of these simulations provided a valuable insight into the response mechanisms of unsaturated soils.
