Notes on Shear in Compression Members
The object of this paper is to apply the principles of Mechanics to the subject of shear in compression members. A method is presented by which given conditions can be analyzed and those which produce the greatest shear can be determined, thus enabling the engineer to design for the most dangerous conditions that he considers it advisable to assume. The relationship between shear and the slope of the column axis herein given has already been published elsewhere, but as far as the writer is aware, the interesting possibilities of this relationship have not previously been developed.
