Effects of Loading Sequences on Embankment Settlement and Its Prediction
Loading sequences affect the shape of settlement-time (s-t) curves in embankment engineering. Based on the rheological stress-strain relationship of soils, the characteristics of s-t curve of embankment settlements are analyzed under different loading sequences. The results indicate that the s-t curve is in exponential shape under instant loading, S-shape under linear loading. The prediction models for the above two different loading sequences are presented respectively. All predicted results show that it is logical and significative to predict embankment settlements under different loading sequences with different models.
