Repair and Rehabilitation of a 28 Year-Old Overhead Water Tank

Reinforced Concrete (RC) overhead reservoirs are important water-supply systems that may fail due to aging and other durability problems. To maintain the integrity of these structures, proper inspection and repairs are necessary. A case study on a near thirty-year old overhead water reservoir, located in Tiruchirppalli, India, is presented. An important lesson learned in the case study is the need for frequent inspection and proper repair and rehabilitation schemes to prevent further deterioration. This paper discusses the issues associated with the maintenance of the water tank and describes in detail the repair process.
