Coal Mine Remediation in South Central Illinois
This paper discusses the remediation of abandoned underground coal mines in South Central Illinois by injecting cementitious grout into the mined void. The paper focuses on the injection of low-mobility grouts and high-mobility grouts under low pumping pressures to completely fill the mine voids. Improvements in down-hole cameras and lighting, which increases the accuracy in estimating and scheduling the void fill in unmapped, inaccessible mines is also discussed.
