Resume of the Mississippi River Flood Problem
The problem of flood protection is one which has vexed mankind for ages. In Genesis VI, 12, 20, 24, a flood is described, which was caused by a rainfall of 40 days and 40 nights and which raised the waters 15 cubits, covered the earth for 150 days, and destroyed all animal life in its path. This description of the Deluge would not be a very exaggerated account of the flood of 1927 in the Mississippi Valley. Moreover, there is an analogy between the Ark that Noah constructed as a means of flood protection and the boats and barges used in 1927 for the same purpose.
