Height of Buildings
High buildings are the outgrowth of commercial considerations. They facilitate business, they increase ground rentals, and they offer opportunity for profitable investment. As the American mind is not hampered by precedent or biased by ancient customs, these considerations have easily outweighed popular prejudice, and even small American cities aspire to high buildings. In Europe there is more conservatism, but all the world is now striving for commercial advantage, and the pressure to make buildings larger and higher will probably increase there as it bas in America. The problem as to whether or not the removal of restrictions as to height is warranted must be faced.
