In Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the Heydar Aliyev Center seems to rise straight out of the ground, the building’s facade and the surrounding plaza adorned in matching glass-fiber-reinforced panels of either concrete or polyester. Within the free-form, futuristic structure, an intricate space frame system helps create the sweeping, towering shape of the new cultural facility.
