Within the last three years, the writer has had occasion to construct a bridge for the Mobile and Montgomery Railroad Company, across Tensas river, in the State of Alabama. Tensas river is the largest of the many outlets or bayous of the Mobile river; it is 2,100 feet wide, and from 16 to 35 feet deep, with a daily tidal action of only about 16 inches.
