Centrifuge Modeling of the Progressive Failure of a Soil Slope under Cyclic Loading Conditions
Earthquakes are one of the most serious natural calamities that can induce failures of slopes such as landslides and dam breaks. Therefore, it is an important research topic to evaluate the co-seismic stability level of soil slopes. Such a method should be based on a thorough understanding of the progressive failure process of soil slopes. A few centrifuge model tests were conducted to investigate the progressive failure behavior of slopes. The load and top settlement of the slope were measured using a load transducer and a laser displacement sensor, respectively. An image-based displacement measurement system was used to record the images of the slope and accordingly determine the displacement field of the slope during loading. The deformation and the failure process of slopes were examined according to the measurement results.
