Three-Dimensional Finite Element Analysis of Underground Structures' Dynamic Response in Liquefiable Soil
This paper presents a study of dynamic responses of underground structures in liquefiable soil. Analysis is performed using the open source finite element framework OpenSees, and a novel, three-dimensional, cyclic plasticity model for the analysis of large post-liquefaction deformation was used. 2D and 3D numerical analysis were performed respectively to compare the stress and deformation of the underground structure. Computation results showed that the 2D calculation may overestimate the displacements of the structure and underestimate the dynamic stress responses of the structure. Through 3D analysis, parametric studies on the effects of slope angle of the ground and buried depth of the underground structure were conducted.
