A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
The foundation rock beneath the concrete structure of Douglas Dam and part of the adjacent rim was dolomitic limestone of the Knox formation. Large bedding cavities existed at each abutment of the concrete dam and the rock in the original river bed was highly cavernous. That part of the rim which was formed by shale was relatively tight.
