The Railway Pile and Pontoon Bridge Across the Mississippi River at Prairie Du Chien, Wis
The Railway Pile Pontoon Bridge, which is the subject of this paper, was built in the year 1874, across the Mississippi River, between Prairie du Chien, in the State of Wisconsin, and North McGregor, in the State of Iowa, for the purpose of connecting the divisions of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway Company, terminating respectively at the points named. The river here is divided, by an interjacent island, into two channels, both of which are navigated.
