Seismic Upgrade of the UCLA Knudsen Hall with Viscous Damping Devices
This paper presents application of viscous energy dissipating devices for seismic upgrade of an 8-story concrete building located on the grounds of the UCLA campus in Los Angeles. The lateral load resisting system in the longitudinal direction consists of a series of non-ductile reinforced concrete frames and this is the direction in which the building was fortified by these devices. The lateral system in the transverse direction consists of reinforced concrete shear walls and was not subjected to upgrade at this stage.
