Rehabilitation of the ''Mehmet Kebir Celebi'' Mosque
During the period of the Ottoman Empire, there have been built a numerous mosques in the Balkan area. Skopje (the capital city of Macedonia, and part of the Balkan region), is one of the many cities that prove the `mosque architecture development' during the Ottoman Empire. Since the XV century, there have been built a numerous mosques in the city of Skopje, while today only a part of them have preserved their structural integrity. However, the mosques that are present today, in the Skopje area, are evaluated with partial damages that need repairing, and in some cases reconstruction as well, in order to ensure their existence and proper functioning in the future. In this paper is shown the architecture of the `Mehmed Kebir Çelebi' mosque before and after rehabilitation, its damage characteristics evident before repairing of the mosque and the structural modification during its repair and reconstruction. In this paper is also described the structural analysis and process of rehabilitation and reconstruction of the `Mehmed Kebir Çelebi' mosque. Preceding to this issue, it is briefly presented the `3D finite element based' analysis results of the mosque with application of SAP 2000 computer software. A comparison between the two different states of the mosque (before and after rehabilitation) considering the structural modelling, points out the level of analysis and design accuracy of the mosque structure as well as its proper rehabilitation process.
