Wimbleball Dam Remedial Works
Wimbleball is a 50 m high concrete buttress dam located in Exmoor National Park, Somerset, England. The reservoir is a major strategic supply for South West Water and Wessex Water and is required to maintain continuous operation. Since construction in 1978/9 leakage via the underdrainage system below the left abutment was greater than anticipated. Although some immediate remedial action was undertaken by supplementary grouting, there was continuous and increasing leakage beneath the dam, despite 2 further limited attempts in the 80s and 90s to seal the leakage by grouting from the dam crest. The paper will detail the recent injection history of the dam, illustrating the progressive sealing of the bedrock.
