Workshop on Direct Strength Method Design of Cold-Formed Steel Members
The Direct Strength Method is an entirely new design procedure for cold-formed steel member design, and was formally adopted into AISI Standards (AISI-S100-07). The method integrates computational determination of cross-section stability and maps the stability to appropriate limit states for design in a highly compact and efficient format. This new design method does not rely on effective width and is able to provide a consistent design methodology for general cold-formed steel cross-sections. This workshop on the Direct Strength Method provides attendees with (a) background and examples, (b) the latest advances including members with holes, and (c) an industry perspective for a company utilizing the method in new product development.
