Wave-Induced Response of Seabed around a Buried Pipeline in Silty Soil
This study examines wave-induced response of seabed around a buried pipeline in silty soil. The response of the seabed is simulated with a numerical model based on the u-p approximation of the Biot formulation and the UBC3D-PLM soil model. The pipeline is modeled as a non-porous elastic material with a rigid interface between the pipe and the soil. The linear wave theory is implemented to simulate wave-induced water pressures on the surface of the seabed. A series of analyses are conducted to investigate the effects of wave height on the seabed response and its liquefaction potential. The effect of the pipe presence in the seabed on the development of pore pressures is examined by comparing pore pressures in the proximity of the pipe and in the far field. The results demonstrate that the implemented model captures the main mechanisms of the wave-induced liquefaction around a buried pipeline.
