Design and Construction of the Access Tunnel to Valiasr Metro Station
Valiasr Metro Station located at Valiasr Intersection where two subways crossed and the Valiasr Underpass that is a pedestrian underpass is recently constructed there. This paper presents the design and construction process of the access tunnel that connects the ticket hall of the metro station to the underpass. The shallow depth of the access tunnel and existence of the numerous underground construction and installations are parts of the limitation of the design and construction process. The metro station and the under pass were under operation during the construction time. NATM was considered to construct the access tunnel and 2D and 3D numerical models were applied to simulate the staged construction process and to design of the tunnel’s initial lining.
