DEM as an Educational Tool in Geotechnical Engineering
This study focuses on the application of the Discrete Element Method (DEM) as a computer aid for instructors and students involved in an academic geotechnical program. This paper presents some simple examples such as the simulation of a standard laboratory test, different types of foundations, and different cavities inside a rock mass. These examples illustrate how DEM can be used to cover topics related to basic geotechnical courses.
