Mitigation of Hurricane Losses in Residential Construction through the Residential Construction Mitigation Program
A load and resistance methodology is presented to estimate the reduction in damage and the ensuing financial losses to residential structures associated with hurricanes. The methodology makes use of inspections of buildings to characterize the wind resistant features of a building both in its current state and after the building has been mitigated. The methodology is demonstrated with an example of a vulnerability and mitigation study for a single family residence in the Residential Construction Mitigation Program in the State of Florida.
