Rehabilitation of the Chicago River
Waterways that are properly planned, rehabilitated, and regulated can be fully utilized to accommodate multiple activities. Conflict resolution is an essential issue which must be addressed in the management of waterways and waterfronts. This paper summarizes the recent rehabilitation and management, as well as history, of the Chicago River in Chicago, Illinois. The underwater and above water inspection, design, rehabilitation, maintenance, and operation of the historic Chicago River in Downtown Chicago will be discussed in this paper. The issues involved in fully utilizing an urban waterway while minimizing conflicts are also discussed in this paper.
