A "Mapping Circle" PGA Attenuation Relationship Model for Wenchuan Earthquake
The circle PGA attenuation relationship model is very popular in China because it is useful and convenient in seismic risk analysis. It is obvious, though, that the model is not suitable for large earthquakes, especially some with a long fault. We propose one circle model in which the "epicentral distance" is a mapping of the epicentral distance in the usual circle model and is named as "mapping circle" model. This model is used to analyze the PGA attenuation relationship in Wenchuan Earthquake (Ms 8.0). The results show that the model could be used to simulate the ground motions distribution along the Wenchuan earthquake fault and it is better than the circle attenuation model and the fault-rupture attenuation model.
