The hydraulic plant of the Puget Sound Power Company is located in Pierce County, Washington, and is the development of the Puyallup River for the purpose of supplying power to the Seattle Electric Company, the Tacoma Railway and Power Company, and the Seattle-Tacoma Interurban Railway, associated companies of the Stone and Webster Syndicate, of Boston, Mass. The Puyallup River is torrential in its upper reaches, having its source in the glaciers on the western slope of Mt. Rainier.
