Application of Fractal Models to Water and Solute Transport in Unsaturated Soils
Based on the fractal pore-space theory, fractal models of the water flow and the solute diffusion for unsaturated soils are proposed. The fundamental relationship for hydraulic conductivity between unsaturated and saturated soils is investigated. The ratio of solute diffusion constants in porous media to their values in water is determined. The threshold moisture content of affecting solute diffusion is analyzed by using fractal model. The water and solute transports through unsaturated soils are numerically simulated. The model development, simulation studies and model validation are presented and discussed.
