Ballard Roadside Rain Gardens, Phase 1—Lessons Learned
This paper covers the experience and lessons learned from the Ballard Roadside Raingarden, Phase 1 Project. This project involved installing bioretention facilities along eight blocks of city right-of-way for combined sewer overflow reduction goals in 2010. This paper details the design and construction experience and where Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) made missteps that resulted in the removal of 40% and retrofit of 50% of the constructed rain gardens.
