Selection Factors for Progressive Design-Build Delivery Method

One of the early owners’ decisions that have significant impact on project success is selecting a suitable project delivery method. One of emerging project delivery method that gaining high interest in the past few years is Progressive Design Build (PDB). However, limited knowledge is available regarding circumstances under which one should select PDB as a suitable delivery method for a project. Therefore, this study determined the relative importance of the variables that impact owners’ decision to select PDB as a delivery method for a project. To achieve this goal, the research team developed and distributed an online questionnaire among project managers who were involved in PDB projects, and responses to it were collected to measure the importance of factors that affect owners’ decisions to select PDB as a suitable delivery method. Within academia, this study establishes an early empirical database of the PDB selection factors. Within industry, this study enhances the decision-making process by providing guidelines for using PDB as a delivery method based on owner and project characteristics.
