Urban Planning: A Tool for Environmental, Community, and Economic Stewardship
The Philadelphia experience with its water environment is a story that meanders through the history of city and regional planning movements - movements that have impacted, and continue to impact, the nation's oldest city. This paper explores the relative importance of water through a timeline of five eras in planning history. From early settlement to today's urban transformation, the inherent link between planning and the environment is established. The story imparts the significance of our natural resources and the strength of environmental planning as a component of a more comprehensive plan.
