Stormwater Control Using Storage and Networking Techniques
The rapid urbanisation of the Tokyo region has resulted in a sharp increase in the incidence of flooding and the associated expense of flood damage. The tight economic situation in recent years has intensified efforts to develop cost effective solutions to these problems. A new approach of using storage pipes and interconnecting network pipes is investigated in the context of an actual case study. It is concluded that this storage and networking procedure is far superior to the traditional techniques, which involve the augmentation of hydraulic structures to convey the escalating peak flows. An additional benefit of the storage and networking procedure is that it can easily be integrated with construction practices commonly used in the rehabilitation of sewers.
