Atchafalaya Diversion and Its Effect on the Mississippi River
The diversion of floodwaters from the Mississippi River via the Old and the Atchafalaya rivers in Louisiana is an important factor in the control of the Mississippi River floods below the point of the diversion. Diversion occurs at all stages of the river, and the only control heretofore exercised in the quantity diverted has depended on the resistance of the channel of the Atchafalaya River.
