Performance of Precast Concrete Diaphragm Connectors Based on Structural Testing
A large variety of connection details are used for providing integrity between precast concrete panels in building floor diaphragms. To assess the adequacy of these connections a number of experiments have been conducted. This paper presents the methods used for examining connections under both load and deformation control. The benefits and detractions of each method are examined. A standard procedure of developing simplified backbone curve from original test data is presented in the paper. The data of simplified curve generated from each of the tests conducted are also summarized in a comprehensive database. This database provides both the connection detail used in each experiment as well as the load and deformation performance achieved. The connections are categorized as either a low deformation element (LDE), moderate deformation element (MDE) or high deformation element (HDE) based on the performance measured in the experiments. This connection performance database can be used to assist in precast concrete diaphragm design and modeling.
