Evaluation of Static Liquefaction Susceptibility of Sands with Triaxial Test
The undrained cyclic behavior and liquefaction characteristics of sand are highly dependent on the mechanisms observed in static tests. The outcomes of an experimental study on sands carried out to investigate the effects of stress and strain conditions are presented in this paper. In this context, undrained triaxial compression and extension tests were performed on Toyoura sand at different initial relative densities. The outcomes of experiments show that undrained triaxial compression test results differ from the extension test results, especially at high void ratios of sand. Additionally, the results indicated that increasing effective confining pressure results in decreasing dilatant tendencies.
