Snoqualmie Falls Hydropower Plant—A National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark: Video of the Power of Snoqualmie Falls
In 2008, Puget Sound Energy produced an excellent video documentary: "The Power of Snoqualmie Falls." This was the world's first completely underground hydropower plant, built deep within the towering fall's basalt shoulder. In 1981, ASCE designated the Snoqualmie Falls Cavity Generating Station as a National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark. This plant, for over 100 years, has supplied hydroelectric power to the Seattle region. Charles Hinkley Baker was the engineer and Thomas A. Edison was involved in the lighting and power for Seattle. The falls are spiritually significant to local tribes and water releases over the falls are monitored throughout the year. The film can be viewed at http://vimeo.com/5530039.
