Thin-Shelled Domes Loaded Eccentrically
A shallow thin-shelled model dome of plaster of Paris was subjected to a concentrated load successively placed between the springing and the crown. Strains were measured at near-by and distant stations on the upper surface. Compression and transverse tests of the plaster gave data concerning moduli of elasticity and Poisson's ratio whereby stresses were computed from the recorded strains. Sand loads were distributed uniformly over an eighth segment and over a quarter segment to study the transition from a concentrated load to a uniformly distributed load over the entire surface.
