Hydraulic Conductivity Interpretation Using Piezocone Results
Hydraulic conductivity is one of the major geotechnical parameters that govern the pore water flow characteristics of soils. Determination of hydraulic conductivity, however, is traditionally time consuming and expensive. This research proposes an easy and economical way of determining the hydraulic conductivity from Piezocone penetration tests. High excess pore pressures observed in clayey soils and low excess pore pressures observed in sandy soils during Piezocone penetration tests exemplify this concept. The works of Voyiadjis and Song provide theoretical bases for the estimation of the hydraulic conductivity in this study. This research performs numerical studies and investigates the relationships between the penetration excess pore pressure and the hydraulic conductivity for various soils, and tries to develop easy-to-use equations to detour computational difficulties.
