A platform for research: civil engineering, architecture and urbanism
Most Excellent Integrated Water Management from California
Water management in California is increasingly driven by local water agencies which have designed integrated portfolios of water supply and demand management activities to economically provide reliable water deliveries. Often these portfolios involve other agencies through water market and conjunctive use schemes. Efforts of some major urban, agricultural, and environmental water suppliers are reviewed. Some analytical, data management, and public policy implications of these locally-driven statewide water management portfolios are discussed. In contrast with the traditional centrally-engineered water projects, California has become a system of decentralized engineering and coordination of spatially extensive and integrated water management. Some successes and problems are discussed.
